Case Study - MAUSA - Flood Response - Moin Uddin

Md Moin Uddin, a successful farmer, lives in Horipodnagar village situated in the Pandargaon Union of Doarabazar Upazila, Sunamgonj.  Moin has a large family consisting of his wife, three sons and three daughters. At 60 years of age, Moin Uddin had a successful harvest of Boro paddy this year. With the hope of marrying off his eldest daughter with the money he would get from selling rice, Moin Uddin kept 4 months of rice for his own family. However, as the destructive flood ravaged their village in June, his dream still remains untouched.

With tears in his eyes, Moin confessed, “It was raining before the flood happened. On Friday, after heavy rainfall, the water level rose to the floor of our house. I had no way of knowing what was going to happen. At around 1 am, the flood washed away everything, including our food and the rice I kept for my daughter’s marriage. We had to remain in the shelter for next 15 days. After returning home, I found nothing but ruins of my house. I have no money for food or for repairing the house. With 8 members in the family, I am clueless about what to do now.”

Moin Uddin expressed his happiness when he heard about the food package he would be receiving from GUSS and Muslim Aid USA. He said, “I am very happy to receive all this food from Muslim Aid USA and GUSS. Now I don’t have to worry about food for my family members. May Allah bless them.”
