Nosima Khatun (FCN-194006), 75 years of old woman who has been living at block C in camp 4 since the middle of September 2017. Her husband died 10 years ago at the age of 74. Since her husband’s death she was living a miserable life as she has no children and no one to take care. She has traveled this steep way of being displaced from Myanmar alone, flinched but did not give up. 

On date 25 August 2017 when the Myanmar military started to invade on the civilian people, she was bound to leave the country in that critical situation. She reached to Bangladesh in September 2017, on her way she faced many obstacles and tedious situations like life risks, starvation, sleeplessness, prolonged walking, insecurity etc.     

In the beginning, she did not get any support from anywhere. When she remembers those days, her eyes get watered. There was no shelter, food security, water supply, sanitation, or necessary health services. Gradually she began to receive different types of assistance from different organizations but her inability to work made her entirely dependent on others’ aid. 

Her hut was shabby and broken. Prior to that, the shelter did not have the infrastructure to safeguard her from animals and insects. Monsoon & storm seasons came like a curse to her. Living alone in such an unsafe shelter was the most challenging part of her life. 

In the middle of November 2021, Nosima Khatun came to know that Global Unnayan Seba Sangstha (GUSS) financially supported by MAUSA would assist people by providing shelter in her block. After that, the community Mobilizers of GUSS went to her house in order to collect some necessary information and she cooperated with our community mobilizers accordingly by providing the required information. Considering the poor condition of her house and on the basis of her FCN and RCN card, she was selected as a beneficiary. So, after appropriate procedures, eventually in the late of December, her shelter was constructed and labeled as number 21. Since then, she has been staying in this new shelter happily. 

Now Nosima Khatun is very grateful to GUSS and MAUSA for implementing this kind of humanitarian support. She believes that if Global Unnayan Seba Sangstha (GUSS) and MAUSA will continue this kind of support for the vulnerable people.
