Case Study - MAUSA - Flood Response - Shanur Ali

Md Shanur Ali  is a resident of Horipodnagar village under the Pandargaon Union, Doarabazar Upazila, Sunamgonj. With his wife, son and two daughters, they are a family of five. 62 years old, Shanur Ali did not have much land in his name, but he was happy with what he and his son earned through their hard work. Although he could not send his son to school, he still dreamt of giving his daughters the proper education they deserved. Tragically, his dream was washed away alongside his daughters’ books in the deleterious flood water.

“It was raining heavily since Friday. With the water level crossing the floor, I did not know it would get so bad. Around 1 am at midnight, the forceful flood water crashed into our house and washed out everything we had, including food items, books and clothes.” This was the teary confession of Shanur Ali. His family had to relocate to a nearby shelter when the flood became uncontrolable. They stayed there for 15 days and returned home to find nothing but the ruins of his house.

After that Shanur Ali’s family lived without proper food and accomodation. Receiving the food package from GUSS and Muslim Aid USA came as a new ray of hope for his family. He said, “I received some relief before, but the amount was never as large as what I got from Muslim Aid USA and GUSS. Thank you for your support.”
