Building Healthy Habits: The GUSS Effect in Fatima Begum's Community

Fatima Begum, a 27-year-old forcibly displaced Myanmar national (FDMN) residing in Bhasan Char, stands as more than a beneficiary of support; she’s an enthusiastic learner and hygiene advocate actively engaged with Global Unnayan Seba Sangstha (GUSS). Having resettled in Bhasan Char amid the Rohingya influx in November 2022, Fatima’s journey is marked by resilience and a commitment to well-being.

Initially grappling with homesickness, Fatima made a conscious decision to prioritize both her mental and physical health. While serving as the Learning Center President in Kutupalong limited her participation in hygiene sessions, her relocation to Bhasan Char opened up new avenues for learning and growth. In collaboration with GUSS, she actively participated in both group and individual hygiene sessions, demonstrating a keen eagerness to absorb transformative knowledge.

This commitment to education didn’t merely remain with Fatima but radiated into her family life. Implementing the hygiene-related tips she acquired, Fatima instigated significant habit changes within her family, particularly emphasizing regular handwashing. These shifts in behavior translated into tangible improvements in their health, creating a positive ripple effect that fostered a happier family life.

Grateful for the impact of GUSS’s initiatives, Fatima expressed her appreciation, noting, “The sincerity and clean personality attract me. By applying their hygiene-related tips, I have achieved a healthy life. I am indebted to GUSS.” Her sentiments reflect not only personal gratitude but also underscore the profound impact that education and awareness can have in instigating positive change within communities.

Fatima Begum’s journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of empowering individuals with knowledge. Through her proactive engagement, she not only improved her well-being but became a catalyst for positive change within her family. Fatima’s story echoes the importance of education and community-driven initiatives in creating healthier, happier, and more resilient societies.
