Shelter for the Homeless
Addressing the emergency situations, the organization initially distributed shelter kits among refugee families to curtail the suffering of housing. Over the last five years, it has implemented 7 shelter projects of different capacities with multiple donors. Considering the vulnerability of the Rohingya and Host Community in Cox’s Bazar, GUSS constructed 2,598 mid-term shelters for the Rohingya refugees whereas the number is 115 for the host community. Along with shelters we delivered fire extinguishers for strengthened fire protection, solar home systems, and necessary training for maintenance of shelters, fire extinguishers, and solar home systems. The shelters GUSS has built for the FDMN have been built out of high-quality treated bamboo for longevity, and since bamboo has been one of the main sources of raw material, the projects have decreased environmental impact.
